| Chairman: | Professor Martin Goosey. PhD C.Sci. C.Chem. FRSC FIMMM FInstCT. IeMRC Wolfson School, Loughborough University, Ashby Road, Loughborough, LE11 3TU. Tel: (44) 01509 227688. Email: m.goosey@lboro.ac.uk Martin is the Industrial Director of the Innovative Electronics Manufacturing Research Centre and based at Loughborough University . A chemist by training with a PhD in microelectronics reliability, Martin has over 30 years experience in the electronics industry. He has also worked as Chief Scientist at Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials Europe Ltd, at Plessey's Caswell Research Laboratories, the Morton Chemical Research Centre in Woodstock , Illinois , USA and for the Welsh Development Agency. Martin is a Chartered Chemist, a Chartered Scientist, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Fellow of the Institute of Circuit Technology . He also runs his own consultancy business which provides environmentally focused support and training to the electronics industry. |
| Vice Chairman: | Dr Andy Cobley Head of Materials The Sonochemistry Centre at Coventry University Andy graduated from Portsmouth Polytechnic in 1986 with an honours degree in applied chemistry and after a short spell at the International Tin Research Centre he joined British Aerospace (now BAe Systems) working in their metal finishing and PCB fabrication facility. In this role he learned the basics of PCB manufacture from drilling and metallisation to imaging and defect analysis. In 1989 he moved to Shipley Europe (now Rohm and Haas, now Dow Electronic Materials) initially in their technical service division where he was a trouble-shooter working at some of the biggest PCB facilities in Europe. In addition he worked on several collaborative projects with companies such as Fuba, Sony, Siemens, Ericsson, Viasystems etc. He then moved to the R&D group at Rohm and Haas where he developed electroless and electroplating processes being named as an inventor on several US, European and international patents. In 2002 Andy completed a PhD at Loughborough University and in 2006 he joined the Coventry University Sonochemistry Centre where he now heads the materials group. The current focus of this group is the search for more sustainable methods of surface modification in electronic manufacturing and energy efficient (e.g. low temperature) plating processes. The group also has projects investigating novel methods for the metallisation of non-conductive materials. Andy is a councillor for the Institute of Circuit Technology (ICT) who he also lectures for on training courses whilst he regularly gives presentations at trade events and conferences such as the EIPC. In addition, Andy is a Chartered Chemist, a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Member and Councillor of the Institute of Metal Finishing for whom he also sits on the publications committee. He is also an expert reviewer for the EU FP7 project on embedded dies (HERMES). |
| Immediate Past Chairman: | Steve Payne. FInstCT. Lead Consultant & Managing Director, Cirflex Technology Ltd. steve@cirflextechnology.com Tel:+44 (0)1245 443193. Fax:+44 (0)1245 443190. Web site: http://www.cirflextechnology.com Steve has served for 32 years in the PCB Industry. After graduating in Applied physics, he spent 19 years at GEC Marconi (PCB division at Great Baddow) - managing the business from 1980-90. Spells with Ciba Geigy and Kam Circuits followed, prior to founding Cirflex Technology Ltd - providing Business and Technical Consultancy for over 10 years. Steve was involved with Exitech Ltd. producing the first dual laser drilling system in the mid 90's, and with several major EU & UK R&D programme's. Steve specialises in high-tech electronic industries and in particular the flexible circuit industry and the technologies of embedded components. Steve won a Churchill scholarship to study PCB & Flexible circuit technologies in Japan , USA & Europe in 1999, and served as Chairman of the ICT between February 2000 and October 2002. | Hon Sec: | John Walker. 10, Foyle Park , Basingstoke , Hampshire , RG21 3HD. Tel: 01256 473434. bcsbasingstoke@btinternet.com John Walker's exposure to the Infant Printed Circuit Industry commenced in1954 when he joined Photo Printed Circuits Ltd, a newly established organisation in Bisley,Surrey whose method of Circuit production was based on photographic techniques. Even in these early days the company was experimenting in the production of printed components such as Resistors, Inductors and Capacitors. Subsequent to this he moved about in the newly formed Industry to gain experience and during this period he was awarded a Patent describing a method of “Hole filling” to protect copper in drilled holes prior to printing and etching. His ultimate post was as Group Marketing Director of the Nevin Group. John Walker was, in 1974, a Founder Member of the Institute of Circuit Technology and soon after became a Fellow. For two consecutive years he served as ICT Chairman subsequent to this he was elected Honorary Secretary of the Institute. |

| Recorder: | Pete Starkey. Starkey Technical Services , 8 Church Street, Market Bosworth, Nuneaton, Warwickshire , CV13 0LG. Tel/Fax: 01455 293333. Mob: 07976 813783. PeteStarkey@aol.com Pete Starkey has been associated with the circuit board industry for the past 30 years. Originally a research chemist, he had a variety of process development, technical service and technical sales positions with supply-houses before gravitating into board manufacture, and eventually becoming a tolerably successful hands-on technical director. In his declining years, he does odd jobs for anyone gullible enough to consider his residual experience to have some value. He can often be observed free-loading his way around exhibitions and conferences. |
